ASME FISAT Chapter under the aegis of Mechanical Engineering Department, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) has organized a one day seminar on Gas Turbines in association with the ASME GT India Panel at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Angamaly, Kerala on 7th April 2018.
Experts from the gas turbine industry involved in the area of GT Design & Research, were present in the seminar which gave students an unique opportunity to interact with them, as well as find out the latest methods and cutting-edge technology to improve operation of gas turbines in the future.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) has organized an invited lecture marking the occasion of National Science Day on 28th February 2018, where Padma Bhushan award recipient Dr. A.S. Pillai, Founder CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace was the resource person. This was the 3rd lecture in their Erudite Lecture Series organised every year. Dr. A. S. Pillai, the Founder CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, currently serve as Honorary Distinguished Professor (ISRO), Honorary Professor (IIT Delhi), Visiting Professor (IISc).
On behalf of SAME FISAT, an awareness talk was organized to give our students a fair idea about the opportunities of higher education at Cranfield University, UK. Dr. Harris Makatsoris, Professor of Manufacturing Operations at Cranfield University, was our resource person. A special thanks to Dr. Harris who had switched three flights over a period of two days to make it to out here.
The talk addressed the various opportunities available for mechanical engineering graduates for higher studies in UK and especially Cranfield University. Cranfield University specializes in Post graduate courses and is one of the top universities in UK. He detailed the various courses available in the University and elaborated on the various schemes of scholarships available.
A chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE FISAT, has been launched at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology, Angamaly. Students interested in the automotive world will now have the opportunity to meet and interact with the various giants of the industry as well as gain knowledge about new developments in the field.
SAE FISAT was officially inaugurated by Dr. Kulasekharan N., research head at Fiat Chrysler on 1st February 2018. A go-kart built by the students named KARMA was flagged off by Mr. Paul Mundadan, chairman, FISAT.
Mr. Jyothish kiran was elected as student chairman of the chapter and Mr. Nithin H (AP, ME) and Mr. Manu Mathew (AP, ME) are the staff in charge.
On behalf of ASME FISAT chapter, an awareness talk was organized to give our students a fair idea about the various opportunities and prospects for engineering graduates in the Indian Navy on 18th Nov 2017. Captain R. Rajesh, Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, Kochi was the resource person.
After a brief introduction about Indian Navy and Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, he elaborated on the various opportunities and benefits of joining the Navy and the ways to join the Navy. His presentation about the different streams of engineers serving the Indian Navy inspired and motivated many students to try their hand at the naval examinations in the final year of the course. As a courtesy, on behalf of the navy, Captain R. Rajesh gifted a portrait to Mechanical Engineering department.
Our student Mr. Jithu Paulose was awarded the prestigious Charles T. Main Student Leadership Silver Award in 2017.
The Charles T. Main Award was established in 1919 in honor of the 37th President of ASME. This award will be given to undergraduate ASME Student Members whose leadership and service qualities have contributed, for a period of more than one year, to the programs and operations of a Student Section of the Society, to his/her department activities and other related activities.
The Department organized an invited talk on the topic LIBERATION THROUGH EDUCATION on 17th February 2017. Dr. Satish V Kailas, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, IISc Bangalore was the resource person. A total of 70 participants comprising of both in station and out station staff and students attended the function.
One always wonders why one gets educated? Is it to gain knowledge? Is it to use this knowledge gained? Gaining knowledge and using this knowledge are some of the reasons why one gets educated. However, education should lead to other things that are as much, if not much more, important. Education should lead to liberation! This talk will try and address the issue on how to make education lead to liberation and on how to make your education a much more meaningful and fulfilling experience.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) has organized a National Level 3 Day Staff Development Programme on “Research Opportunities and Challenges in Advanced materials and Manufacturing” in association with The Institution of Engineers (India), Kochi from 08th - 10th June, 2016. A total of 34 participants were registered out of which 18 were outstation participants from 10 different Engineering colleges across the state and 16 in-house participants from Federal Institute of Science and Technology and has attended the programme.
Dr. G Madhu, Chairman, the Institution of Engineers (India), Kochi chapter was the chief guest and had given introductory remarks about the program. Dr. Suresh A. Kartha, Associate Professor, IIT Guwahati was the guest of honour and resource person of the day. On the following days experts like Dr. Sathyan Subbiah, Associate Professor, IIT Madras, Dr. K. Narayan Prabhu, Professor, NIT K Surathkal, Dr. K. Prabhakaran Nair, Professor, NIT Calicut and Dr. Premlet B, Associate Professor, TKM College of Engineering shared their expertise on relevant research areas and all the sessions were found to be fruitful.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) has organized a National Level 1 Day Workshop on Design and Engineering on 12th January 2016. A total of 72 outstation participants from 34 different Engineering colleges from India and 60 in-house participants from Federal Institute of Science and Technology attended the workshop.
Dr. C. BALAJI, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras, was the resource person. Dr. George Issac, Principal, Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Paul Mundadan, Chairman, Governing Body of FISAT.
