Community Services

The institute is situated in a rural village and as such the upliftment of the community is the prime responsibility of the institution. Student forums like NSS, FOCUSS, SWAN, Road Safety Club, and Class Committees are in the forefront in carrying out the vision of the Management. Community outreach programmes are often organized. Anti alcoholic, anti drugs and road safety campaigns were carried in the campus and outside with the support of various Govt. departments and NGOs. English literacy programmes and computer literacy programmes were also regularly conducted by the students among the rural village population.  Awareness on water born diseases, fund raising for charity programmes, treatment of persons with terminal illness, blood donation programmes, social visits to orphanages and special schools, are also carried with much enthusiasm among students. Rehabilitation of the differently abled students is a major challenge undertaken by the institute. Mr. Jiby Varghese, Asst. Prof. ECE dept and Mr. Jacob Peter, Public Relations Manager are leading the social service activities of the college. Students are encouraged to do project works in developing assistive devices for differently abled students. Electronic walking system recently developed for visually challenged is a project work undertaken by group students. 

FISAT used to take part of all the social activities like sanitation, health care, etc. organized by local Govt. bodies. Local Grama Panchayath actively interacts with the college in identifying priority projects. These programmes are executed in association with various youth clubs of the locality. Govt. departments like Health Department, Agriculture Dept, Motor vehicle Dept, and Social Welfare Dept are associating with the institute for carrying out the community development programmes. 

FISAT students carried out an awareness programme on monsoon related diseases on 30th June 2014. Mr. Biju Palatti, President, Mookkannoor Grama Panchayath inaugurated the programme at Panchayath hall. Mr. Paul Mundadan, Chairman, FISAT Governing body handed over the medicinal kit to Mr. Biju Palatti. 

B. Tech students conducted a cleaning campaign at Marine Drive, Kochi on 14th January 2015. Mr. Hibi Eden MLA inaugurated the programme. Social Responsibility Club of FISAT Business School organized a cleaning campaign at Thommankuttu on 15th March 2015.

FISAT Blood Donors Forum in association with Blood Donors Kerala and Amrita Hospital organised a blood donation campaign on 14th January 2015. Around 200 students donated their blood.

A Day to Remember’ was hosted by FISATians for differently-abled children on 20th Sept 2014. 100 Students from 20 special schools gathered at AELI Hills, Aluva. 25 students from 5 regular schools and 30 FISATians under the leadership of Mr. Jiby Varughese and Mr. Jacob Peter spent a full day with these children, engaging them in group activities, music and dance practicing. In the end, handful of presents were given to all students. Third edition of this programme was hosted once again in 23rd Sept 2015. The programme was organized in association with Stallions International, Aluva chapter. 

Sneha Sangamam, A day of fun and entertainment for terminally ill children was organized by FISATians on 28th February 2015 at Choice School Tripunithura in association with SOLACE, an NGO working for the rehabilitation of children with cancer and thalassemia. Forty Scope members under the leadership of Mr. Jiby Varghese, Asst. Professor and Mr. Jacob Peter engaged the children with dance, music, games, workshops and group activities. Around hundred children in the age group of five and fifteen, their family members and Solace volunteers participated in the day long programme. Anchor Ranjini Haridas and Cine actor Adly entertained the students with dance and music. 

FISAT Dialysis Support Centre a new venture by NSS unit and FOCUSS to extend support for dialysis patients. Arrangements are made with MAGJ Hospital, Mookkannoor and LF Hospital, Angamaly for treating patients identified by NSS volunteers.

Social visits were conducted regularly by various branches of students. These visits are organised to inculcate a social outlook to the society. The MCA students visited Tribal School, Edamalayar and hosted Onam Sadhya for the inmates. MBA students visited Nehru Memorial Orphanage, Vattekkad during Onam festival. Akashparavakal near Mookkannoor is often visited by the students on special occasions. 

The nature club SWAN aims at creating a new generation of youth, which recognizes the importance of preserving nature and creates eco friendly and green solutions.  A high Tech Green House farming project with central and state subsidies is implemented in the campus to inculcate and propagate the modern pollution and chemical free agriculture in society. The Road Safety Club ‘INSIGHT’ is working to create awareness among students regarding road safety measures and traffic rules. 

Meritorious students from the rural village are admitted in the institute on a reservation basis and given scholarships and financial assistance. Elected members of the local bodies are active members of the Parent Teacher Association. Workshops are conducted to empower Grama Panchayath members, Kudumbasree workers and other women organizations. As such the institute enjoys the good will and support of the village population. 

Stallions International has selected FISAT as best social worker (institution) in 2013-14. Solace has selected FISAT as the best social worker in 2014-15. Several appreciations and mementos were also received for blood donation campaigns.
