29 August 2016 >> Jnana Series Lecture on "Differential Global Positioning System for Efficient Land surveying"
Mr. P.Kalaiarasan, Scientist-C, NATPAC, Thiruvananthapuram delivered an invited talk on “Differential Global Positioning System for Efficient Land Surveying” on 29 of August 2016. The basic concepts of GPS, the major difference of DGPS from GPS, the methodology, instruments used, use of DGPS effective demarcation of boundaries, utilisation of satellites in real time and various softwares in use were introduced by the speaker. He also interacted with the studetns and gave a brief introduction to Civil engineering and job opportunities available in industry with respect to various specializations and companies after successful completion of B.Tech course.
17 March 2017 >> Hands on Workshop on "Structural Steel Detailing using TEKLA"
Association of Civil Engineers (ACE) organized a one day hands on workshop on “Structural Steel Detailing Using TEKLA software on 17 March 2017. This hands-on workshop was organised in assocaiton with Radiant Institute of Technology, Kochi. The sessions were handled by Mr. Kwaja Moinudheen and Mr. Jijith.P. The resource persons discussed the history of TEKLA, its applications and some of the modern buildings that were designed using this software. He explained how XSteel evolved into TEKLA and how well it works as BIM software during the session. Mr.Jijith P., gave the students an insight into the importance of structural steel design and the basic commands for design of steel sections. The event also included a hands on session where students were asked to work on a problem provided, utilizing the software.

NIRMAN 2K17, the first Building Expo - outside the campus - was organised by the Department in assocaiton with Builders Association of India (BAI) Angamaly Centre. The expo was hosted at CSA Hall, Angamaly on 31 March and 1 April 2017 on the theme “Traditional Building materials and Green initiative” was inaugurated by Mr.Roji M John MLA. at CSA HALL Angamaly. P T Paulose Angamaly Block Panchayath president, Paul Mundadan- Chairman, Mr.P I Bose Treasurer, Dr George Issac- Principal, Dr. C Sheela- Vice Principal, Dr. Sunny Kuriakose Dean Student Affairs also participated in the function. There was a foot fall of 1500+ which included public, students and faculty members.
18 April 2017 >> Hands on Workshop on "Structural Modelling and Rendering using REVIT"
A one day hands on workshop on “Structural modelling and Rendering of Buildings” using the software Revit was conducted on 18 April 2017. The session was handled by Mr. Sijo Joseph, Ms. Nimmy and Mr. Sinso of CAAD CAMPUS, Aluva with support from Ms. Sethulakshmi, Mr.Rahul. The sofware, Revit, can be used for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and has many features including architectural design, MEP and structural engineering and construction management. The various aspects like designing, detailing, modelling and possibilities of virtual design and construction using Revit was explained during the session. Mr. Sinso explained how to make a 3D model from the plan of a multi storeyed building. 56 students attended the session.
20 April 2017 >> "Productivity in Construction Industry"
The Association of Civil Engineers (ACE) organized a Lecture on “Productivity in Construction Industry” for the final year students by Er. Biji Stephen, MD, Esthappan Infrastructures as part of the Jnana Lecture Series. He discussed the importance of productivity in the construction industry and how incompetency among workers, supervisors and engineers is affecting the companies and industry as a whole. He pointed out examples of some of the notable instances along with snapshots. He also mentioned mechanisation in the construction industry and how mechanisation would help improve the quality of the work and save valuable time and thereby cost.
