Placement Statistics

Placement and Training cell plays a pivotal role in providing opportunities for students to grab their dream jobs. The PTC of the department is a team of experienced faculties and vibrant student representatives. The team is functioning inline with the Placement Cell of the institution. The cell is working hard to mould the students to fit  themselves to the placement drives. For this, every student is made to go through a series of training programs for enhancing their skills in technical, aptitude and soft skill during their course for nearly 200+ hours. PTC has been successful in placing almost all the eligible students over these years. The fact that our students are placed in MNCs like IBM, TCS, Infosys, Accenture, CTS, IBS, UST Global, Government and Public Sector companies and commercial banks speaks volumes about the professional excellence of students.

Syllabus

 The MCA (Two Year) Programme and the Integrated MCA Programme offered by the department is affiliated to the Kerala Technological University and the syllabus of the Programmes has been framed by the university. Both the programmes are structured on a credit based system following the semester pattern with continuous evaluation.

The duration of the MCA programme of the KTU is two years consisting of four semesters. The Course structure for the MCA programme consists of Core courses, Elective courses, Laboratory courses, Mini Projects, Seminar, Comprehensive Viva, Main Project and Non-credit courses. The course curriculum is made in such a way that both classroom training and practical training is incorporated in the syllabus, which helps students to gain the required set of skills and technical knowledge to become an efficient professional in the IT world.

Innovative Teaching Learning

The Department has adopted innovative teaching learning methodologies so as to foster effective listening and thereby improve student outcomes. The goal of teaching is to promote learning. The strategies we deploy helps to promote learning. Trying out different strategies in the classroom is an iterative process to help us promote learning more effectively and successfully.

Flipped Classroom

In a flipped classroom students review lecture material at home and work on projects and assignments in the classroom. Students in the flipped classroom complete an assigned work typically sent home as homework in class. The flipped classroom provides a great space for peer-to-peer collaboration.

Think-Pair-Share (TPS)

Think-Pair-Share (TPS) is a cooperative learning activity that can work in varied size classrooms and in any subject. Instructors pose a question, students first THINK to themselves prior to being instructed to discuss their response with their partners (PAIR). Discuss and SHARE these to the whole class.

Think Pair Share Re-Pair (TPR)

Think-Pair-Share-Re Pair (TPR) is a cooperative learning activity that can work in varied size classrooms and in any subject. Instructors pose a question, students first THINK to themselves prior to being instructed to discuss their response with their partners (PAIR). Discuss and SHARE these to the whole class , pair again to incorporate their suggestions too

Two-Minute Test

Random test of two minutes to know how the portions taken in that hour have been understood by the students.  Also they can specify the questions that remain in their mind.

Jigsaw Groups

Jigsaws are another active learning method. Students are divided into groups and given different pieces of information. Students in each group are then tasked with learning the information enough to be able to explain it to someone else. The students are then assigned to different groups where they explain their information to the other members. They complete this process until each group has the full picture of information to complete the puzzle.

Video Lectures

Along with the lectures, students are provided with the video lectures of some of the courses. This is beneficial especially to the slow learners of the course as they can play the video at their own pace.

Department Library

Besides the central library, the department has its own library facility which is an extension of the central library. The Department Library of Computer Applications  has an extensive collection of books and hard copies of students’ project reports.. The titles cover different areas of computer science and applications domain. Remote access to e-resources, e-journals like IEEE, Elsevier Science Direct etc can be accessed through Knimbus platform. The library has good reading room facilities and  WiFi connectivity to help students to have informative time spend in the reference sections. The department library can be accessed by both the students and faculty during college working hours.

Programme Outcome (PO)

PO1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO)

PSOs represent what the students should be able to do at the time of graduation from Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering,

PSO1 – Apply the concepts of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering to design and develop components, systems, and solutions for applications including and  not limited to electronics, control systems, process and industrial instrumentation, signal processing, and interdisciplinary areas of engineering, with due consideration for innovation and societal needs.

PSO2 – Select, adapt, and apply state-of-the-art hardware and software tools to analyze and solve complex problems in Electrical, Electronics, and Instrumentation Engineering, ensuring solutions that meet industry standards and global practices.

Projects

Business English Certificates (BEC) 

 The Business English Certificates (BEC) are internationally recognised qualifications that show employers your skills for using English in the workplace. BEC is an ideal English language exam if you are preparing for a career in business. There are three different levels of BEC: BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher. More than ever, a good knowledge of English is needed to succeed in international business and commerce. If you can show you have relevant language skills, you’ll have a great advantage in the jobs market and much greater flexibility if you want to work abroad. BEC can help you show that you have learned English to an appropriate standard and can use it in a business context. The BEC exams are aligned with Levels B1 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages — an internationally recognised benchmark of language ability. The framework uses six levels to describe language ability,from A1 to C2. ‘Can Do’ statements have been used to describe these levels in terms of real skills with language, such as being able to write a report, or take a telephone message. This means that preparing for BEC will help you develop real-life skills and the confidence to use them. BEC is also linked with the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority’s National Standards for Literacy, within the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). 

We are providing  B1 level BEC certification as an add-on course for all of our students.

 

Main Projects

Projects help the students to apply their knowledge to solve real world problems. Projects also help students to learn new things which are not part of the curriculum. Every student group will be guided by a faculty member. “Illuminar” the final year project exhibition is conducted every year in the month of April – May. An expert from an industry is invited to evaluate the projects done by the students. This helps to get an insight on the quality of the final year projects from an industry perspective.

Admission

Total intake: 120 seats

Eligibility

-> A pass in degree examination with 50% marks (60% marks desirable) in aggregate for Arts/Commerce /Science/ Engineering and for post graduates. Final year students are also eligible to apply.

-> Good score in any Management Aptitude Test- C-MAT / CAT/KMAT (The minimum qualifying cut off marks of KMAT Kerala Entrance Examination shall be 15% (108/720) for General Category from the academic year 2020. The minimum cut off for SEBC will be 10% (72/720) and 7.5% (54/720) for SC/ST).

Selection 

The selection of candidates is purely based on merit. Admission to the MBA programme is determined by the scores obtained by the candidate in the admission test, group discussion,personal interview and a consistent academic record.
