Prof. (Dr.) Jacob Thomas V. has been serving as the Principal of the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Angamaly, since 1 January 2024. He is an accomplished academic leader, administrator, and researcher with over 36 years of experience in engineering education, biomedical engineering, institutional leadership, research, and innovation.
He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Surat, and his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. His doctoral research, titled “Analysis of Foot Pressure and Stress Parameters for Various Foot Sole Properties in Diabetic Neuropathy,” reflects his strong academic foundation and expertise in biomedical engineering. He has also earned an International Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (QCF).
Before joining FISAT, Dr. Jacob Thomas V. served in various capacities as an Electronics Engineer, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Professor, and Principal in engineering institutions under the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), Government of Kerala. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been instrumental in strengthening engineering education through academic leadership, institutional development, curriculum innovation, research promotion, and industry–academia collaboration. He has played a significant role in establishing new academic programmes, fostering innovation, implementing Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and leading quality initiatives, including NBA accreditation.
With a passion for academic excellence and institutional growth, Dr. Jacob Thomas V. continues to provide visionary leadership at FISAT, promoting a culture of innovation, research, collaboration, and continuous improvement while preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the engineering profession.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Jacob Thomas V. has received recognition for his outstanding leadership in engineering education and institutional development. Under his leadership, institutions have achieved significant milestones including NBA accreditation, excellent KTU Academic Performance rankings, establishment of AICTE IDEA Labs, Centres of Excellence, and successful introduction of several emerging technology programmes. His contributions to engineering education and academic governance have been widely appreciated by academic and professional communities.
Dr. Jacob Thomas V. began his professional career as an Electronics Engineer with the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), Government of Kerala, where he worked on the installation, maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment across government hospitals. This experience laid a strong foundation in biomedical engineering and healthcare technology.
He later joined the Government Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, where he played a pioneering role in establishing the Department of Biomedical Engineering. During his tenure, he developed innovative curricula, established laboratories, introduced problem-based learning, founded the Training and Placement Cell, and mentored numerous students who pursued higher education and successful careers worldwide.
As the Founder Principal of the College of Engineering, Kottarakkara, he led the development of the institution from its inception by creating infrastructure, establishing laboratories, recruiting faculty, and launching undergraduate programmes in Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Science Engineering.
During his tenure as Principal of the College of Engineering, Kallooppara, he initiated postgraduate programmes in Cyber Security & Forensics and Signal Processing, introduced undergraduate programmes in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and promoted industry collaboration and applied research.
At the College of Engineering, Chengannur, he significantly enhanced academic quality by promoting Outcome-Based Education, supporting NBA accreditation activities, establishing a TCS iON Online Examination Centre, and improving the institution’s KTU Academic Performance Index.
As Principal of Model Engineering College, he led several landmark initiatives, including NBA accreditation for all eligible undergraduate programmes, launching a B.Tech programme in Computer Science and Business Systems in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), establishing the CogniCor-AICTE IDEA Lab, creating Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics, introducing new programmes in VLSI and Data Science, and strengthening research culture and institutional governance.
Since 2024, Dr. Jacob Thomas V. has been serving as the Principal of the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), where he continues to provide visionary leadership towards academic excellence, innovation, research, industry collaboration, and institutional growth.
