BAI

The department is an institutional member of Builders Association of India (BAI), Angamaly Centre since 2017. One of the major activities that the department has undertaken is organising a build expo, NIRMAN. This build expo is organised by the department for the public, hosted outside the campus. The first build expo was organised in the year 2017, NIRMAN 2k17. This was followed by similar events in the year 2018 and 2019. In addition to exhibition stalls, invited talks are also organised for the benefit of the community and students.

Somya Goswami of S3 CE B won the quiz on DGPS survey, conducted as a part of the workshop on DGPS, held on October 15, 2025.

The Builders Association of India Student Chapter (BAI) conducted a workshop titled “Aesthetic Aspects of Building & Concept Drawing Competition”  for the first year B.Tech students on 11 February 2026.  The program was conducted with the support of Tangent Education, Thrissur, which offers specialized training in interior/exterior design and 3D visualization. Mr. Vinod KC and Mr. Arundas VM, Directors of Tangent, were the resource persons.

 

ASCE

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is the oldest professional society in the world. It is an international community aiding Civil Engineering professional development since 1852. The Department of Civil Engineering at FISAT has a student chapter since 2018 and received its charter in January 2020. The Chapter endeavours to actively support students’ growth as future civil engineers by organising various events like Technical Talks, Field Visits, Exhibitions, Paper Presentations, Community service and Special Projects. An executive committee comprising of student officers helps function the body under the advisement of two practitioner advisors and a faculty advisor.

Academic Year: 2025-2026

Department organized a two-day hands-on training program on Building Information Modelling (BIM) on 4th and 10th February 2026. The program was conducted in association with the ACE,  ASCE Student Chapter and ISTE FISAT Chapter, with the objective of equipping students with industry-relevant digital construction skills. The sessions were handled by our faculty members, Dr. Asha Joseph, Professor, and Ms. Sowmya V. Krishnankutty, Assistant Professor (Senior Grade).

Abiram B Krishna and Ananthakrishnan V S (S6 CE) participated in the ASCE India Student Symposium held at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun during March 25–28.

Each Department has a well stacked department library that are subunits of the Central library. There are more than 300 volumes of books which are specific to the courses offered. These books are accessible to both students as well as faculty members. Bound volumes of seminar and project reports are also available for student references. Charge of the department library is assigned to a teaching faculty of that department. Purchase to the department library is through the central library and complimentary copies from the publisher are also added in the stock. Department library is open during college working hours. The department library is stocked with books for UG and PG programmes

Laboratories

The Department of Civil Engineering has Eight state-of-the-art labs with modern equipments. The labs are well maintained and is designed to meet more than the requirements of the curriculum of the University. The labs are fully utilized by the students in undertaking UG design projects, main projects and PG Research Projects. All equipments are periodically calibrated and also caters to the research and consultancy works of the department.

Project Lab

Project Lab aims at nurturing research aptitude among students/staff and facilitating the students with the innovative project outputs of the department. Mentoring System

A healthy mentoring system exists in the department. Two or Three faculty mentors are assigned for each B.Tech class of sixty students and one faculty mentor for the M.Tech class of 24 Students. Number of students per mentor is approximately 20.
