NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government – sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. NSS was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation and is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes and activities.
APJ AKTU NSS Cell has two technical Units in FISAT numbered with Unit No.104 & 568. Each technical cell has one Program Officer, two Volunteer Secretaries and 100 Student Volunteers. So a total of 200 Volunteers from second year & third year work for NSS with the Motto, “NOT ME, BUT YOU”. NSS is launched with primary focus on developing a sense of involvement in the task of National development through programs organized by students themselves & their personality development through community service. NSS volunteers work with villages, slums and voluntary agencies to complete 120 hours of regular activities during an academic year. An NSS volunteer is expected to remain in constant touch with the community, live with the members of the community and learn from their experiences.
FISAT NSS team is actively involved in conducting many activities that include blood & stem cell donation camps, Energy Auditing, Open Street Mapping, planting trees, Immunization & Vaccination support, Community cleaning & beautification, Awareness & training programs etc. FISAT NSS also has a blood donor cell consisting of hundreds of students from various departments who are willing to donate blood in emergency situations. They are also involved in distributing essential commodities & food packets to the less privileged people & providing financial assistance to poor people with severe medical conditions. They actively involved themselves in flood relief & rehabilitation works. With the aim of building a better tomorrow, they are actively involved in conducting Anti-drug orientation & house campaigning, to spread awareness regarding the side effects of using drugs & the need of a Drug free world. They do care for nature too by conducting environment awareness programs & planting trees on their birthdays & post updates of its growth in an App called Tree Tag. Giving prime importance to food & health they have conducted several programs which includes FIT India Freedom Run, Cancer awareness programs etc. On special occasions like Christmas, NSS volunteers engage themselves with differently abled & old aged people with lots of music & fun activities to make their day a memorable one. To foster the skill sets of students, various competitions like music competition, photography, poster & painting competitions, quiz competitions etc., are also conducted by FISAT NSS. Every important days like Teacher’s day, Nurses day, International Science day, Girl child day, Martyrs day etc are celebrated either by organizing webinar or by releasing posters.
