FISAT wins Xplore 2023-education competition organized by German Multinational -Phoenix Contact

The team from the Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering Department of Federal Institute of Science & Technology (FISAT), Angamaly, Kochi, won the Xplore Technology Award 2023 in category “Smart Technology” for a sustainable world for their project “Water management at home for a sustainable world using IoT.” The project was developed by a team of students led by Aaron Sabu Joseph, Aakash Shaji, Amala Joy, Allen Simon Antony, Clinto Jose, Aravind Surendran . Lakshmi Nandakumar and Dr. Abi P Mathew were their mentors.

The team won the Xplore Technology Award 2023 by competing against 700 other teams from around the world. The award ceremony was held at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Berlin on October 20, 2023, which coincided with Phoenix Contact’s 100th anniversary. The winners were honored by Minister Michael Kellner, Parliamentary State Secretary.

The team’s project was judged as a significant contribution to the effort to conserve water as it has the potential to save a significant amount of water, which is important in light of the global water crisis. The project was considered as innovative, as it uses IoT to monitor and control water usage and as a new and innovative way to conserve water.

The team’s project was referred to as a great example of how technology can be used to solve real-world problems and also a great example of how students can make a difference in the world.

SEVAFARM

Sevafarm is a mobile app developed by the students and alumni of FISAT to get fresh vegetables at your doorstep . The vegetables are directly from the farmers and is run in collaboration with manjapra forane church agriculture market. The market will be live on Mondays and Thursdays. The developers of the project are Mr Arun U and Mr Shafi Asharaf ( Alumnis EIE dept), Mr Naigal Roy and Mr Jopol Joy ( S8 CSE ), Aron Sabu and Augustine Shajan (S8 EIE) and the mentors are Ms Raji P, Ms Honey Devassy and Ms Lakshmi Nandakumar ( EIE department)

XPLORE 2023
Aakash Shaji, Amala Joy, Aaron sabu, Allen Simon, Clinto Jose & Aravind Surendran of 2019 Batch Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering(EIE) under the guidance of Dr. Abi Mathew & Ms. Lakshmi Nandakumar for being selected among the final teams from 30 countries and the only team from India securing a research support valued 3,500 euros (3 Lakhs INR) in xplore 2023 Technology Award by Phoenix Contact, Blomberg , Germany.

TECHLETICS 2022

A National Project Competition was organized as a part of Techletics 22, the technical fest of Christ College of Engineering, Irinjalakuda on 4th May 2022. Godson Thomas and Gokul Rejithkumar won 3rd prize and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for their project Geslator. The team was guided by Ms. Sreevidya P.

Prof summit 2021

Mr. Ajith Joseph of S6 EIE won 1st prize in paper presentation contest Prof summit 2021 held in July 2021. The topic Automated Cylinder Monitoring System were guided by Ms. Sreevidya P and Ms. Beenu Riju.

Bazinga

Mr. Godson Thomas, Mr.Gokul Rejithkumar won 1st prize for Bazinga- Conducted by ASME students section of Kerala collective which was held in July 2021. Their project, Early Landslide Detection and Warning System was mentored by Ms. Sreevidya P.

 

SRISHTI, National Project Exhibition

2 teams of department of EIE won the 1st and 2nd runner up for ‘SRISHTI’, National level technical project exhibition held at Saintgits College of Engineering on 25th and 26th April 2022. Derin T Jose, Gokul S Kumar, Kiran Raju received the 2nd prize for their topic Vegetable Harvesting and Pest Identification Robot. Another team consisting of Gokul S Kumar and Godson Thomas (all S8 EIE) also received 3rd prize for their project Geslator: A Two Way Integrated communication system for deaf-mute. Ms. Sreevidya P was the mentor of both the teams.

 

 

SPICES FUND

Department of Electronics &Instrumentation received funding from AICTE-Scheme for Promoting Interests, Creativity, and Ethics among Students (SPICES) for department’s Students Association, Instrumentation`s Dextrous Etudiants Association(IDEA) for the year 2021-22.

The objective of SPICES is to energize and position students club as facilitating entity for pursuit of individual interests, creative work, showcasing talent, networking and teamwork opportunities, social experience; organization and management skills, exposure to professional ethics etc.

Department has planned yearlong activities for effective utilisation of fund received for the benefit of students of FISAT as a whole. The proposal for funding were initiated by Dr. Abi P Mathew, Ms. Sreevidya P and Mr. Anil Johny.

UV SANTISATION UNIT

Ms Raji P, Mr Ajay Baby and Jayasoorya J. S (S8 EIE) designed and manufactured the UV sanitisation unit which was delivered to the Taluk Hospital Angamaly on 7 July 2020. The device can be used for sanitization of N95 masks as well as the watches, phones etc used by doctors, nurses and the healthcare workers there.

 

 COVID DASHBOARD

The Covid dashboard was developed aiming to give the information regarding Covid-19. We could provide information on the number of cases reported in different districts in Kerala, then nationwide and then global information too. There are analytics on the spread, containment zones, death reported etc. The team of developers in S5 EIE was mentored by Ms. Sreevidya P. The team of developers from S5 EIE are Derin T Jose, Gokul Rejithkumar, Godson Thomas, Adarsh V.S, Agnel Nic Sebastian, John Paul Mankadiyan, S Haridev Sankar.

Special Achievements

>>  Team Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, FISAT (Reshma, Hari, John and Amrutha, Sreevidya P – mentor) won SECOND prize in VAIGA Agri Hackathon 2021, Kerala’s largest Agricultural Hackathon conducted by Department of Agriculture, Government of Kerala during February 11th, 12th and 13th, 2021 a St. Thomas College, Thrissur. They competed with 60 other colleges and received the cash prize of Rs 75,000/- from Hon’ble Minister of Agriculure, Adv. V.S. Sunil Kumar.

>> Ms. Athulya Sreekumar, Ms. Bhavya P, Ms. Raichu Mary Mathew and Mr. Ajay Baby with the guidence from Mrs. Raji P, Assistant Professor, EIE participated in Young Innovators program (2019-2022) KDISC and KSUM and awarded prize for their project “Sonic Sanitary Cleaner” at state level competition in January 2020.The same team along with Mr. Abel B C, Mr. YadhuKrishna, Mr. M Vishnu of Electronics and Insrumentation Engineering were also the finalists of Smart India Hackathon (AICTE).

>> Mr. Ajay Baby &; Mr. Vishnu K S of EIE won first prize with a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000 in India Skills Kerala 2020, State level finals in the category Mobile Robotics.

>> Department of Electronics and Instrumentation signed Memorandum of Understanding with two industries Heman Robopark, Mookkannoor, Angamaly (Largest automated multilevel car parking system manufacturers) and Quartet Baloons, Keerampaara, Kothamangalam ( fully automated high quality balloons manufacturers) on 5th and 6th of February, 2020.

>> Under the leadership of Ms. Raji P, Assistant Professor, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Mr.Ajay Peter of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, developed UV mask sanitiser an handed over to Government Taluk hospital, Angamaly.

>> Ms  Lakshmi Nandakumar  and Ms Raji P (IEDC member FISAT) of Department of Electronics and Instrumentation was awarded special Jury mention on SHE POWER HACKATHON held on 20 December 2020.

>> Ms Honey Devassy, Assisant Professor, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering participated in 4th IEEE Conference on Information and Communication Technology (December 3-5, 2020) at  Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing, IIITDM  Kancheepuram , and got Best Paper Award in the track of Photonics and Optical systems for the article titled ‘Exploiting the non-uniform characteristics of Silicon photodiode in vibration monitoring’.

>> Nair Aswathy Harikumar  won first prize for poetry writing conducted by Rolling Stone (Literary club of FISAT)as a part of Womens Day Celebration. She also won third prize for poetry writing conducted by Darsana Publications. She was one among the 5 finalists of the beauty pageant ‘Miss Millenial 2K17’ conducted by Manorama Online powered by Federal Bank. She also won the zonal level of Speak for Kerala contest conducted by Federal Bank.

>> Nair Aswathy Harikumar , Rohith M. & Arun C  won first prize in fashion show held at MA college of Engineering, Thejus Engineering college, and SNMIMT.

>> Akash Anil  secured the National level boxing championship held in Chhattisgarh and another National level boxing championship held in Delhi, conducted by Chhattisgarh and Delhi association respectively.

>> Arathi E, Ashin Sajan, Ditto Paul, Ijas Mohammed, Monica Clare Albin  bagged the ‘Best Instrumentation Project Award’ in the technical fest – ‘Shrishti’ held at Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam. Project – Smart Farm.

>> Sarath K K, Ijas Mohammed, George Thomas, Ashin Sajan, Arun U  were the prefinalists of product designing conducted by the National Instruments. They were funded Rs 10,000 by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) for researching in the project ‘Vertical Profarm’. Now they are the quarterfinalist of the currently running contest of Indian Innovative Challenge Design Contest (IICDC – 2017) by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore, which is an initiative by the Texas Instruments and Department of Science and Technology (DST), supported by MYGOV and Make In India.

>> Automatic Egg Candling Machine’, a project done by Joseph P Joseph, Krishnanugrah P U, Maria Susan John, Vijay Rajeev, Arun Kumar T V  are also the quarterfinalist of the currently running contest of Indian Innovative Challenge Design Contest (IICDC – 2017) by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore which is an initiative by the Texas Instruments and Department of Science and Technology (DST), supported by MYGOV and Make In India. They were also funded Rs 3000 by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) for the project.

>> Arun U, Ankith Saju, Arathi E were funded Rs 7,000 by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) for project research in ‘Self Piloted Robot’.

>> Aishwarya Lakshmi Pradeep, Sofia Sara Biju, Mary Jeny P.J, Jismol Thomas presented a paper on ‘Virtual Instrumentation in Power Quality Monitoring’ at College of Engineering, Kidangoor.A project titled ‘Real Time Process Controlling and Simulation Through VR’ was selected for 2nd round of Quest INGENIUM, a contest for engineering talent search conducted by QUEST GLOBAL where the project was researched by Vijay Rajeev, Krishnanugrah P U, Joseph P Joseph, Arun Kumar T V. of S8 EIE.

>> Arun Kumar T V, Basil Joy, Melvin Tomy won the first position for their research paper titled “PORTABLE MILEAGE SENSING DEVICE FOR VEHICLES” in KETCON-2018 jointly organized by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and KSCSTE, hosted by Sahradaya Engineering college during February 2018 .This paper also won third prize at TEQUEST, technical fest conducted by the department of Instrumentation, CUSAT .

>> Meera Benny, Suhana P H and Najla M N  participated in a paper presentation contest of TEQUEST, technical fest conducted by the department of Instrumentation, CUSAT.

>> Meera Benny  won first prize in paper presentation contest held at FISAT as part of NAUTILUS 2K18.

>> Lakshmi  L S won first prize in paper presentation contest held at FISAT as part of NAUTILUS 2K18

>> Haritha Ravichandran, Sreehari Menon and Akash Tommy  attended a two day Astronomy workshop conducted by Raman Research Institute, Bangalore.

>> Mariya Susan John, Sudheer P M, Vinil Vincent, Renex Reji  won first prize for “AUTOMATIC EGG CANDLING  MACHINE” in the project exhibition contest held at FISAT as a part of TECHATHON.

>> Ijas Muhammed, Anjaly Rajiv, Alan K Baby, Basil Thariath  won second prize for “HYDROPONICS CONTROLLED VERTICAL FARMING” in the project exhibition contest held at FISAT as a part of TECHATHON.

> Aiswarya Lakshmi Pradeep, Arjun K P, Amal Joy, Joel Tony Pulliyil  won third prize for “ SMART HARDEN” in the project exhibition contest held at FISAT as a part of TECHATHON.
