Iluminar, the project expo of final year students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering 2019-2023 batch organized by Electra, the students’ association of the department, was held on 26th of May 2023 at DB407, DB 408 and DB 411 of Federal Institute of Science And Technology. All the students reported to the venue by 9am and started to arrange their respective projects. There were a total of 15 projects. Other students from the EEE department also showed interest and visited the exhibition. Each group was personally evaluated by Ms. Sreevidya P and Ms. Rinku Scaria and was given scores depending on various aspects such as innovation social relevance, completion of the project etc. The exhibition went on till 3:00pm. The main objective of this exhibition was to provide a platform to unleash the potential of the students by displaying their innovative projects.

The principal Dr. Manoj George along with Vice-Principal Dr. Mini P.R., Dean Dr. Unni Kartha G, The Head of Department Dr. Archana R, and other faculty visited and interacted with the students during the Project exhibition. The awards were distributed in the valedictory function held at DB 407 at 3.30 pm. The dignitaries addressed the session with very knowledgeable insights and wished the students for a bright future.

Awards were presented to the groups based on the evaluation by the principal Dr. Manoj George along with Vice-Principal Dr. Mini P.R., Dean Dr. Unni Kartha G and the Head of Department Dr. Archana R. The Best Poster Award for the year 2022-2023, was given to the project “Economic Sensing and Automation for Micro-grids” with a cash prize of Rs. 1000. Faraday Award, which is for the Best Completed Project of the year 2022-2023 was given for the project “DC Micro-grid” with a cash prize of Rs. 2500. Next, the Tesla Award which is for the Best Socially relevant Project of the year 2022-2023, was given for the project “Automatic Weed Detection and Smart Herbicide Sprayer Robot” with a cash prize of Rs. 2500. The Edison Award which is for the Best Innovative Project of the year 2022-2023 was given for the project “Video Processing based Processing Analysis” with a cash prize of Rs. 3000.

The outcome of the expo was that the students were able to show their projects with utmost confidence and it also gave a platform for learning. The event was concluded by 4:15 PM with a group photo session. This exhibition was a great success in its innovative ideas, presentations, time management and that of knowledge sharing. Projects that were exhibited gave solutions to many social problems and could bring in more ideas and opportunities to fore front.
