Second International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power and Renewable Energy (SPECon 2024), organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology , technically co-sponsored by IEEE Kerala Section and co-sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Kerala, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and powered by Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Arjuna Naturals, Sud-Chemie India Ltd and Nest Digital was inaugurated by Shri Sreejith K Narayanan , Director (Operations), Cochin Shipyard Limited on 2nd April 2024.Dr. Archana R , HoD , EEE delivered the welcome address and Honorable Chairman of FISAT ,Mr. Shimith P R,delivered the presidential address.Our Principal Dr.Jacob Thomas V,the guest of honour Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulf Schwalbe Head of the Institute for Renewable, Energies and Electromobility, Fulda University of Applied Sciences , Dr. Biju K, Assistant Director, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Secretary, IEEE Kerala Section,Dr. Vinu Thomas, Dean(Academics), KTU graced us with their valuable words.Handbook of SPECon-24 was released in the function by Mr. Jenib J Kachapilly, Treasurer, FBOAES and was presented to Dr. Biju K. Dr. Rabiya Rashid, Convenor , SPECon 24 delivered a vote of thanks.

The theme of the conference was “Smart Technologies for Power and Renewable Energy”.The Conference focused on various technologies and recent advancements in Smart grid, Microgrid , Power Grid Integration ,Impact of Electric Vehicles in Grid, Evaluation of power systems that are affected by Sustainable Energy and Power Electronic Application in Renewable Energy Integration.SPECon 24 had 160 papers submitted from different countries and out of which 62 papers were accepted for camera ready submission after rigorous review by experts in the field. The review process involved 145 reviewers from different parts of the world. 67 Camera ready papers were received from different countries and 62 are registered and were presented in online/offline mode in 9 presentation sessions from 2nd April to 4th April 2024 in multiple venues. The technical program of SPECon 24 had 8 Keynote sessions and 2 industrial sessions.The keynote sessions were delivered by well known experts – Dr. Biju K, Assistant Director, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Secretary, IEEE Kerala Section, Prof,Prof. Dr. Rajeevan P.P, Professor, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Trivandrum, India, Prof. Dr. Dardan Klimenta Professor, University of Priština in Kosovska Mitrovica,Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulf Schwalbe Head of the Institute for Renewable, Energies and Electromobility, Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Germany, Prof. Dr. Patrick Wheeler ,Faculty Director of Global Engagement, Head of Power Electronics, Machines and Control Research Group and Professor, University of Nottingham, U K, Prof. T. Nandha Kumar, Professor of Electronics, Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering University of Nottingham. There were two technical presentations by Mr. Nishanth Unnikrishnan Product Manager, NeST Digital and Mr. Anish S, Dpty Gen Mgr:C-SAS, Cochin Shipyard Ltd .

Valedictory Function of SPECon 24 was conducted on 4th April 2024 at 3.30 pm in the conference hall. Dr. Rabiya Rashid, Convenor , SPECon 24 delivered welcome address.The Principal Dr.Jacob Thomas V, Vice Principal Dr. Mini P R, HoD Dr. Archana R spoke about the impact made by SPECon 24 in the function.The conference created a platform for experts from academia and industry to share the recent developments in Smart Technologies for Power and Renewable Energy. Ms. Rakhee R , Co Convenor, SPECon 24 delivered a vote of thanks.
