Engineering Complex Systems for a Smarter World: Exploring Graduate Pathways in Systems Science and Industrial Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in association with Electra, organized an academic talk session titled ā€œEngineering Complex Systems for a Smarter World: Exploring Graduate Pathways in Systems Science and Industrial Engineeringā€ on 5th January 2026, Monday, from 11:00 AM to 12:40 PM, at the Main Seminar Hall, FISAT. The session was attended by students of S4, S6, and S8, along with faculty members. The program commenced with an invocation prayer, followed by a brief introduction outlining the objectives of the session, which focused on higher studies, research orientation, and global academic pathways. The event also marked the release of the department’s technical magazine DYUTHI, showcasing student contributions and technical insights. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Surya Susan Alex, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, who welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of research-driven learning and interdisciplinary exposure. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Jacob Thomas V., Principal, FISAT. The technical magazine was officially released by Dr. Jacob Thomas V., Principal, FISAT, in the presence of faculty members and students. The magazine heads, Mrs. Veena Wilson and Mrs. Soumya Simon along with student editors, Akshay Shaji and Asif Mubeen, were invited to the dais and were appreciated for their efforts in bringing out the publication. The session then progressed to the introductory address by the Chief Guest, Dr. Sreenath Chalil Madathil, from the School of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering, Binghamton University, who briefly shared his academic journey and set the context for the technical talk. Felicitations were offered by Dr. Mini P. R., Vice Principal, FISAT, appreciating the initiative taken by the department in organizing the event. The vote of thanks for the inaugural segment was delivered by Mrs. Veena Wilson, acknowledging the efforts of the organizing team, faculty members, and participants.

Following the inaugural proceedings, the technical talk by Dr. Sreenath Chalil Madathil formed the highlight of the program. His session focused on graduate pathways, research culture in U.S. university, Binghamton University, systems science, and interdisciplinary opportunities, providing valuable clarity to students aspiring for higher studies and research careers. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students actively engaged with the speaker and clarified doubts related to higher education, research opportunities, and career planning. As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to Dr. Sreenath Chalil Madathil by Dr. Surya Susan Alex, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. After the formal conclusion of the session, Dr. Madathil interacted personally with interested students, addressing individual queries regarding higher studies and research opportunities. He also collected resumes from students who expressed interest in pursuing graduate studies at his institution, making the session particularly impactful and beneficial.
